Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) is a scheme launched by the Government of India on June 25, 2015. The mission of this scheme is to build homes for the poor who do not own a house, benefitting both urban and rural areas.

Previously known as Indira Awas Yojana, this scheme was initiated in 1985 and renamed to Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in 2015.

Objectives and Financial Assistance

The main objective of the scheme is to provide financial assistance of ₹120,000 for houses in plain areas and ₹130,000 for houses in hilly and difficult terrains.

The goal of PMAY 2024 is to provide permanent housing to the poor and lower-class people in India. The scheme supports individuals from both rural and urban areas to purchase their own homes and live securely. Beneficiaries will receive permanent housing under this scheme, with benefits available until December 31, 2024. A total of 1.22 crore new houses have been approved for construction under PMAY.

Beneficiary Categories:

Beneficiaries under PMAY are categorized based on annual income:

  • Middle Income Group I (MIG I): ₹6 lakh to ₹12 lakh
  • Middle Income Group II (MIG II): ₹12 lakh to ₹18 lakh
  • Low Income Group (LIG): ₹3 lakh to ₹6 lakh
  • Economically Weaker Section (EWS): Up to ₹3 lakh

Additionally, SC, ST, and OBC categories, as well as women from EWS and LIG income groups, are eligible.

  • Click on the PM Awas Yojana link on the homepage.
